Reiki is a Powerful Healing Force

It’s surprising to many people that Reiki is not more well known. Those who are acquainted with it know that it can serve as a powerful healing force. The effects that Reiki can have on both mental and physical health can be quite profound. As you become more familiar with Reiki you will discover that it has sometimes surprising results. When a recipient with serious medical or emotional problems experiences significant improvement, the power of Reiki can really be seen. The effects can be both immediate and long-lasting.
While Reiki is difficult to prove in a laboratory setting, its believers can not be dissuaded. Once you have experienced a Reiki session then you know that the benefits are real. While physical and mental health complaints can sometimes be completely cured, there is no guarantee of this. What can be guaranteed, however, is an instant decrease in stress and an improved general condition.
Reiki sessions are relaxing and stress-relieving for both the practitioner and the recipient. Even without the energy work, the environment of quiet relaxation is beneficial. When you add in the energy transfer and concentration, Reiki has clear and distinct advantages for everyone involved. The immediate decrease in stress levels and the accompanying tension can cause improvements in all kinds of conditions. Even when physical complaints aren’t solved by Reiki, healing and recovery are always enhanced.
Reiki can become an integral part of treatment plans for all types of physical and mental conditions. Along with conventional medical treatment, general health as well as specific conditions can be treated. Even when the result is only symptom relief, the long-term effects can be quite beneficial. It can be especially beneficial when used alongside other methods such as conventional medication and other alternatives.
When you come to understand the powerful healing force that Reiki can be, you will appreciate the simplicity and subtlety it offers as well. Reiki has the potential to be a life-changing phenomenon. If only skeptics would take the time to investigate they would discover the important benefits of Reiki.

Reiki transforms negative energies
Reiki has unseen benefits
Many people are aware that Reiki can be used to heal physical and emotional problems and to relieve stress. What most don’t realize though is that Reiki can be used to promote spiritual growth, increased subtle awareness and can protect the practitioner and clients from negative energies.
The world around us is energy. You know this.
Some energy solidifies into objects, living creatures, and other physical manifestations, but not all. Much of the energy around us consists of things like light, emotions, and thoughts. While much of this energy is positive or neutral, some is negative.
Some people and places just seem to give off good vibes. Just being close to them brings peace and relaxation. Others seem to cycle in negative energy. Being near these places or talking to these people can contribute to stress, anger and unhappiness. We may not be able to explain why, but most people will feel it when near by these sources of negativity.
Reiki transforms negative energy
As the Reiki practitioner directs Reiki around and to the recipient, negative energies are transformed. The internal and energetic state of the recipient is uplifted and they feel relief of stress, anger and the emotional upset that results from the negative energy. The practitioner is also cleansed during the process. The ongoing effects of Reiki ensures that any negative residue is removed.
Even after the session has ended, both recipient and practitioner can enjoy continuing results. The Reiki experience can leave a type of invisible “shield” surrounding both parties and can prevent negative energies from attaching and affecting the protected people. Protection from negative energies tends to persist for some time after the session.
For regular participants in Reiki, the effects can develop into a powerful, long-term protection against a variety of emotional upsets. Even first-time recipients gain some of this defense, but repeat users may experience an invisible field surrounding them. Those receiving Reiki regularly also gain a more skillful ability to avoid and neutralize any negativity that may come their way. Perhaps this occurs through the increased subtlety of awareness that one gains of their own energy and of how to work with it.

Reiki’s Effects on Spiritual Growth
Reiki is based upon the idea that a life force energy flows throughout each of us. Those trained in Reiki are able to manipulate the flow using various methods. Masters of this art use these methods to help to maintain physical and emotional health for themselves and others. An often overlooked use of Reiki, however, is the promotion of spiritual growth. Both the master and the recipient benefit from the spiritual growth available through Reiki.
Reiki is in many ways a type of meditation. Soothing music, low lighting, and other atmospheric effects help to establish a calm and relaxed mood. The calm and focused practitioner further eases tension and stress in the patient. The recipient may experience unexpected emotional responses as the energy flow is directed back to its intended path.
A Reiki master is in a special position for spiritual growth and advancement. As a part of training there are five basic principles, or commandments, that are heavily emphasized.
The first, “Do not be angry,” is key to success as a Reiki practitioner as well as other areas of life. While there are always times when it is appropriate to be angry, it is important to go through life with a positive. Forgiveness and understanding are important.
The second principle is “Do not worry.” Like anger, worry is sometimes inevitable. Growth and enlightenment cannot be achieved, however, when the mind is focused on worries that are out of your control. Excessive worry is harmful to both physical and spiritual health.
The third commandment is to “Be grateful.” A grateful attitude helps one to look at the positive aspects of things. Gratitude is beneficial to the practitioner as well a those around him or her.
The fourth commandment, “Work with diligence,” applies to all areas of life. In addition to paying careful attention to the energies of the Reiki recipient, the practitioner must be reliable and trustworthy in regards to all of their commitments.
The final principle, to “Be kind to people,” is of course both simple and profound. While we all know that kindness is important, few of us truly live as if being kind is of utmost importance. Perhaps more than any other aspect of Reiki, this commandment can lead to great spiritual growth.
After hundreds of years in the shadows, Reiki is beginning to be recognized for its potential to aid physical and emotional healing. The vast potential for spiritual development is yet another aspect of Reiki that many have underestimated.
The 3 Pillars of Reiki, Part 2: Reiji-Ho & Chiryo
This article is continued from another entitled The 3 Pillars of Reiki, Part 1: Gassho
The second pillar: Reiji-Ho
Reiki’s second pillar is designed specifically to align your deepest intention with the highest good for the client and, in fact, for all. Imagine this… you can turn on a really powerful flashlight to create lots of light, but if we don’t point it in the right direction, it isn’t likely to do us much good. Gassho is like flipping the switch on the flashlight and Reiji-Ho is pointing the flashlight in the direction that is best for everyone. Reiji-Ho is asking that Reiki create the highest and best benefit for this person and in fact for all beings. And I think that part of this also relates to trusting that we don’t necessarily know what that highest benefit may be, even for ourselves.
The third pillar: Chiryo
Once we’ve performed Gassho and Reiji-Ho the next pillar is Chiryo, the formal treatment. This will be the subject of further posts. On the subject of empowering your Reiki sessions through the powerful practices of Gassho and Reiji-Ho I have this to say: If you’ve ever done anything in life with a powerful intention I’m sure that you can attest to the fact that this produces much more powerful effects than performing the same activity unintentionally. This is the reason, purpose, and power behind the 3 Pillars of Reiki. In my early years I began many massage therapy sessions without properly setting my intention in this way. I can say from personal experience there are light years of difference between performing a deeply intentional session guided by the Pillars of Reiki and practicing without having first prepared myself through Gassho and Reiji-Ho.
How about you?
Have you had any experiences with the pillars of Reiki? Have you found the three pillars to be useful even outside the context of a Reiki healing session?
The 3 Pillars of Reiki, Part 1: Gassho
Systems make things more powerful
Having a system makes things run more efficiently with less effort and more output.
As a system of healing, Reiki is more powerful because of specific protocols that a Reiki practitioner implements prior to a healing session. These protocols, known as The 3 Pillars of Reiki, drastically enhance the healing effect that a Reiki session provides.
Don’t let the phrase ‘pillars of Reiki’ put you off as it did me when I was younger. The phrase ‘pillars of Reiki’ felt very foreign to me and consequently I didn’t pay enough attention in this area until later. Make no mistake–The Pillars of Reiki are absolutely essential and fundamental to a Reiki healing that you may give to a client or to a friend who needs some assistance.
The first pillar: Gassho
Gassho, described most simply, is the setting of intention to allow Reiki to flow.
Althought many in the Reiki community have spoken that Reiki is always on, and while I believe that this is true and that Reiki is always available and may spontaneous turn on I also subscribe to the belief that ererything is made much, much more powerful by the power of intention. That said, I feel Gassho, and the following pillar of Reiki are indispensably powerful and instrumental in any Reiki healing session.
To perform Gassho you simply…
1) put your hands in prayer position against your heart
2) give thanks (for Reiki, for “others”, your client)
3) ask that Reiki flow through you
Gassho is powerful in part because when we put our hands into prayer position we are connecting the meridians that end in the hands. And while holding our hands in this prayer position for Gassho, we give thanks for Reiki and request that it begin to flow.
We set the simple intention that Reiki begin to flow as we settle our awareness between our palms (or upon our fingertips) and become aware of the sensations occurring in and around our hands. With this as our focus and our intention powerfully set, Reiki begins to flow powerfully.
This alone can an extremely powerful meditative practice. I’m sure many posts could be written about the powerful practice of Gassho meditation. For the contents of this post, I’ll move on to the second Pillar of Reiki, Reiji-Ho.
Read on about the second and third pillars of Reiki, Gassho & Reiji-Ho.
A Reiki Definition?
While this may not be an official Reiki definition (if there is such a thing), what I’ll share with you are my experiences and personal perception of what Reiki is. I can share with you my personal Reiki definition.
Our hands are conduits of energy. We live and breathe in a sea of energies. We’re in constant contact and exchange with the many energies around us. Yet, it is within our power to manage our own energy fields and our bodies by touching in with and addressing our personal energy fields daily.
Reiki is a formal system of hands on (and distance) healing. It is performed by a trained and practiced Reiki practitioner.
Intention is a big deal in Reiki. Intention holds the sacred space needed for the transformation that will occur during and following a healing session. We always state intention for the benefit of all when we practice Reiki. Stating this intention serves as a ‘safe-guard’ against ill will or harmful intent, which should never be included in a Reiki healing session.
What is Reiki?
As an energy, I don’t know if it is some specific radio frequency band, a specific ‘Goddess energy’ or universal “God-stuff” that embues Reiki with it’s power…and I mostly don’t care.
What I do care about are the confirming experiences I’ve had with Reiki and it’s implications on our own self-care and of the care that we can take of those we love, come to know or those we’re only now meeting for the first time, as is typical for a first-time Reiki session. Everyone, and indeed our entire planet, can gain tremendous benefit from a highly intentional and unconditionally loving Reiki session.
Reiki balances energy
Reiki gets us back on track. It gives us an opportunity to check in with our bodies and to be present again. Whether we are receiving a healing session from a qualified Reiki practitioner, or we’re just giving ourselves some Reiki self-care and sacred space, we still benefit greatly.
Even if we are brand new to Reiki, if we can be present and open to perceiving a different experience than we may have had in our personal pasts, we might find a gentle, loving and powerful force that we can connect with and utilize to benefit ourselves and the world around us.
